Spotlight On: Animal Abuse

Spotlight On: Animal Abuse

Hello readers! Today we are going to talk to you about animal abuse. It is a HUGE problem in the U.S.A.

As you know animal abuse can done in many ways, such as: starvation, beating, and neglect. Neglect is when an owner abandons their animal for no apparent reason. It can also be when an owner doesn't give their pet the attention it needs.

Any of these ways of abuse can sometimes kill or hurt a sweet, innocent animal.

Animals are being abused every five minutes. If you ever see this in action report this act to your local police and shelter so the animal can get to the  veterinarian immediately.

A true story

One day in Texas (true story) a person thought they were going to take their pony on a walk, but not just any walk-they dragged the pony from the side of a car. The pony suffered severe injuries. This is an example of animal abuse. We got this information from the Houston SPCA.

Animal Abuse Prevention
There are people who are trying to prevent animal abuse but there are other people  who are making it an even bigger problem.

Map Key:
Dark red really bad
light red bad
yellow okay
light green good
dark green great

As you can see the  states in red or dark red  REALLY need to clean up their act!! They do not have strong animal abuse laws. For example...

States in light green or green can add more laws if they would like to, but they don't have to because they are already looking good!

What We Can Do
There are a few things YOU can do to help prevent animal abuse!

  • If you see an animal that you don't think is being treated the right way you should call someone, like your local SPCA or a different rescue group.
  • Help your local shelter! They always need kitty litter, blankets, toys, food, dog beds, and treats.
  • You can recommend better laws against animal abuse! Write letters to your representative in Congress saying they should make stricter laws. Especially laws that don't let people keep dogs out on chains. Our laws aren't strong enough!

Thank you for reading this blog about animal abuse!
